Our family spent 2 months in Fuengirola in 2024 and I’m so excited to share with you some cool things to do, the best activities and the popular attractions of Fuengirola.

We were not there just for the summer holiday, because we wanted to escape the winter of Finland and to see what it was like to live in Costa Del Sol for a longer period of time.

Fuengirola stole our hearts with its charm. It’s this stunning city in Costa del Sol that’s absolutely worth the visit, whether you’re just stopping by for a short visit or staying longer like we did.

There are a lot of entertainment options to choose from. From beautiful beaches to captivating cultural experiences, Fuengirola offers an array of amaexciting activities to suit every traveler’s taste.

Trust me, you won’t run out of fun things to explore.

Whether you’re a beach bum, history buff, or nature enthusiast, there’s something here for you. Or even if you only want to stay close to your hotel, I’m sure there will be some nice attractions you can find close by.

1. Walk along the Fuengirola beautiful beaches

Ah, Fuengirola’s beaches – where the golden sun meets the shimmering sea, creating a paradise for beach lovers like you. Picture this: soft, sandy beaches stretching as far as the eye can see, kissed by the gentle waves of the Mediterranean.

Paseo Marítimo

Walking at Paseo Marítimo was one of our family’s favorite thing to do! Some days the kids ended up playing in the sand, the other days we went to a cafe to have some snack.

What sets Fuengirola’s beaches apart is their unique dark sand, adding a touch of mystery and allure to the coastline. No wonder they are one of the most beautiful attractions in Fuengirola.

Whether you’re soaking up the sun, building sandcastles with the kids, or simply taking a leisurely walk along the shore, Fuengirola’s beaches offer the perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.

Even though the beach in Fuengirola, Paseo Maritimo, is 8km long, it has many different spots where you can enjoy the sun and the sand. For example Los Boliches beach has a lot of small restaurants, bars and cafes nearby.

And the best place for enjoying some churros is just around the corner! Make sure you have a cup of coffee and some churros in Churrecia Alcala if you are new Los Boliches.

There are also playgrounds for the kids at the Los Boliches beach so there are fun activities for the kids as well!

Carvajal

When you walk along the long beach of Fuengirola, at some point you will come to Carvajal beach. Carvajal more quiet with not so many restaurants and beach bars, but if you enjoy having some space you can choose this part of the beach. It is definitely worth checking!

There were a lot of couples at the Carvajal beach in the mornings. They had brought their own camping chairs with them as well as some refreshments. And a good book of course.

El Castillo Beach

Blue flag beaches

Fuengirola has several blue flag beaches – a recognition for the water quality, cleanliness and excellent facilities.

Some of those beaches in Fuengirola are playa de Fuengirola, playa de Los Boliches, Playa de Castillo and Playa Ronda Paco.

The buses leave close to the Fuengirola train station, so if you take a train to Fuengirola, it takes a few minutes to walk to the bus station where the bus number 122 will take you to Mijas.

How long does the journey take?

The journey typically takes around 20 minutes, and the bus drops you off near the entrance to the village, allowing for easy access to explore its charming streets and attractions.

The cost of the bus is 1,20€, so it’s really cheap and convenient.

These Fuengirola markets offer delights for visitors seeking unique souvenirs, delectable treats, and a taste of local culture. From colorful stalls brimming with handmade crafts to tantalizing aromas wafting from street food vendors, Fuengirola’s markets are a feast for the senses.

Fuengirola market takes place every Tuesday from 9am to 2pm. Make sure to go there early enough, because many locals go there as well and it can get crowded.

I would say this is one of the must see places if you are eager to see the unique lifestyle in Spain.

Our favourite things to get from the markets were fresh fruits and vegetables such as mangos, bananas, apples, strawberries, potatoes, tomatoes and much more!
